Though naturally clumsy, she was nonetheless a kind child, her good heart encouraged by her parents. A harsh winter and a deadly plague deprived Rin of her parents when she had seen twelve summers, but a kindly teacher from the Mizuno Pharmacy took her in, his own children having long since left for the big city of Soumahara in Amatsu. Though she had been raised by that teacher well, remembering him fondly as 'Grandpa', Rin never truly forgot her parents, and especially the plague that had taken them from her. Seeking that nobody else would suffer the loss she had, she asked 'Grandpa' to let her study at the Pharmacy. Being fond of his adoptive daughter, he agreed and had her entered as soon as she was old enough. Her time at the Pharmacy, however, was fraught. Rin was mocked, bullied and mistreated by her fellow students; though she was raised by a teacher at the institution, she was not as rich or well-connected as her fellow students, and viewed as a rough sort, not fit for the prestige of Mizuno. Regardless, Rin tried her best to keep going and keep her chin up, studying diligently and hard through her years at the Pharmacy, learning the healing Mahou from the use of staves to potioncraft. Eventually, it came to a head when a deadly plague swept the east of Hokuto and the Mizuno Pharmacy, along with the others, were tasked with dealing with it to help the overtaxed apothecaries out there. Rin's fellow students hatched a plan, and had Rin sent to the most disease-ridden district in eastern Hokuto, Ibaraki Province. Despite her adoptive father's protests, Rin was sent there, with very few supplies; the Pharmacy was overtaxed, and sparing her more supplies was not possible. What happened out there is known only to the people of Ibaraki and Rin herself, but when she returned to Mizuno after a month, at her side was a Mare Gnosis, showing that the gods had favored her. When asked what she had done, Rin simply smiled and replied, in her quiet manner, that she had done "nothing special". Eventually, Rin was able to graduate from Mizuno Pharmacy, granted the blue jacket given only to those who successfully graduated, and given the honor of a crane pattern on her robe, a reward to those who had performed well during difficult times for the Pharmacy. Rin worked for a while at the Pharmacy's headquarters, ministering for the surrounding villages, before a letter came in from Amatsu, addressed to Rin's "Grandpa" and asking for the finest healer of Mizuno to assist in curing a very difficult to heal affliction. While it was deemed suspicious as the sender had simply asked Rin to meet them in the city, Rin begged to take on the task arguing that it was her duty as a Mizuno healer, and her father reluctantly, after seeing how insistent she was on taking the commission, agreed. The letter had sent her to Kamihama on the coast, and it is there that Rin sent out, even as the question of who, exactly, had sent that letter, remained on her mind. Appearance Notes: Rin's Gnosis is carried on her obi, hidden underneath her Mizuno robes. The Gnosis holder is a simple silver ring, a gift from her "Grandpa."
